Latest: 6 Major Reforms to Australia Investment Immigration

1) The existing 9 investment immigration application channels will be reduced to 4, namely:

  • 188A Business Innovation Stream Investment Innovation Visa
  • 188B Investor Stream investor visa
  • 188C Significant Investor Stream significant investor visa
  • 188E Entrepreneur Stream Entrepreneur Visa

(The investment amounts and application requirements for these four investment immigration programs will be adjusted.)

2) Starting from July 1, 2021, the following investment immigration categories will not accept any new applications.

  • 188D Premium Investor Visa High-end Investor Visa
  • 132A Significant Business History Stream Business Talent Visa (Outstanding Business Background Category)
  • 132B Venture Capital Entrepreneur Stream Business Talent Visa (Venture Capital Entrepreneur Category)

3) Adjustment of 188A application requirements

  • The applicant’s net worth increases from AUD 800,000 to AUD 1.25 million.
  • The applicant's business's turnover increased from AUD 500,000 to AUD 750,000

4) 188E lowers the threshold

  • Cancel the existing investment of AUD 200,000
  • New applicants must be recognized and nominated by the state government

5) If 188A and 188C visa holders fail to meet the business/investment and residence requirements within the specified time, they can apply to extend their temporary visa.

  • 188A holders who have actively started and managed business in Australia in the past 2 years can apply for an extension (for a period of 2 years)
  • 188C holders can apply for 2 extensions (each for 2 years) if they can continue to maintain their significant investments that meet the requirements.

6) The temporary visa retained in the above 4 items is valid for 5 years. If the visa holder meets the requirements after 3 years, he can apply for permanent resident status.
